ORC NAMES : In the various fantasy universes, orcs are usually depicted as a race of barbaric humanoids that worship demons and serve as soldiers in their armies. They’re often associated with the forces of Evil, although some writers like J.R.R. Tolkien treat them more like tragic heroes (he makes Quenya translations for orc names).
Orcish language is also one of the many invented languages that can be found scattered through fictional works, or at least it seems to be so – even if no one has proven whether these sound structures really work (the most popular example would probably be “Klingon” from Star Trek), people still use them, but they aren’t very common outside conlang communities. However, orcs name are still popular in fantasy literature and especially among game developers.

If you’re having trouble finding a suitable orcish name, try to focus on the first letters of each name’s individual words. I’ve also added a few orc names from various fantasy universes into the mix, as well as some real-life names that might work as orcish aliases!
Immortality and wisdom
This is truly what separates us from those vile orcs – we have mastered their language and have become their masters! How ironic it is that they sometimes call us “Orsimer”… Orsimer is Old Imperial term for “Orcs” or “Uruks”, which is a red form of the Elvish word “Bormah”. It literally means “Pariah Folk” in Ayleidoon, but obviously they don’t use this particular definition. In fact, Orsim are quite proud to be known as Orcs!
While some orcs admire the power of the dragons, they hate them as much because these creatures represent everything they lack: immortality and wisdom. They frequently ally with dragons to further their own goals, for example in “Ice & Fire” saga by George R.R. Martin or The Elder Scrolls series (Morrowind) by Bethesda Soft works.
Orcish names
Although orcish culture isn’t very well described in most books and games, it’s usually presented as a war-like society that values strength and honor above all else. Orc warriors don’t use classes like mages and thieves – instead, they’re represented as true warriors who rely on brute force and combat skills to survive.
Orcs are also known to be very talented smiths, forging powerful weapons and exquisite suits of armor. Some famous orcish name makers are Uragon in “Ice & Fire” saga by George R.R. Martin or Bron in The Elder Scrolls series (Morrowind) by Bethesda Softworks. There have even been cases where their near-immortality allowed them to forge draconic artifacts or other magical items! Just take a look at the video game Dota 2 – there’s an item called Heaven’s Halberd, which can’t be made by any mortal blacksmith… it must have been crafted… by the gods!

Famous orcish smiths
Well, let’s start with one of the oldest known elves in The Elder Scrolls universe – Aenarion the Defender. He was an Ayleid warlord who lived thousands of years before the events of Sky rim… way back in Merethic Era. For more information on his life and deeds, take a look at “Pocket Guide to the Empire” by Tavi Dromio… but I’d recommend playing Morrowind first! This will make your experience much more rewarding!
Long-forgotten race like dragons
As for orcish smiths, take a look at Malacath’s quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion… you should find it really interesting. I won’t spoil anything here – just remember to bring your best equipment with you when you try to kill him :). Also notice how he warns the player about using “orcish weapons” and such against him – don’t they work fine? Not for this guy though… and not only because he has his own magic powers. Most likely we’ll see similar items in upcoming TES games (SSE).
